Hola Con Queso?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Another shout out to our fellow webcomickers, as we wanted to give a new comic some press.

Sure, you’re probably familiar with the work of our friends Bryan Prindiville & Darren Gendron, but I doubt you’ve seen their work like this.

Having launched this past Monday, their new comic Hello With Cheese is an irreverant, bizzare, and ultimately hilarious weekly strip.  Featuring some fantastic art from Bryan mixed with the surreal humor of Darren, I do believe they have a hit on their hands.

Nick and I have been privvy to future strips, and I highly recommend you bookmark or add their feed now.  You can tell your friends that you knew of them before it was cool.

And hey, if you can’t get enough of Mr. Gendron’s writing, head over to Dear Pirate.  He makes fun of a certain writer you might know this week.

KATSU MERCH PREVIEW: Prints & You

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

As we’re exactly a month away from Katsucon 15, I figured it’s time we start showcasing the sweet merch we’ll be having at our table.

First up? Two amazing, full color prints!

The first print is the premiere of the ART FIGHT HIGH SCHOOL CONVENTION PRINT SERIES.  Every convention season, we’ll have a brand new print at our table to commemorate it.  This, the “Winter 09″ print, features the cast of AFHS in the midst of an epic battle.  As you can see, some future powers are revealed, giving you a taste of what’s to come in 2009.

The second print is Nick’s first venture into the worlds of fanart.  In sparking full-color, Nick showcases some of his favorite characters from a diverse variety of media, all ready to rock your face.

This is only an inkling of what’s to come, however, as Nick will be doing commissioned art at Katsucon!  This is only the second time this has occurred, so get your requests in early and often!

Prices for these prints, along with the rest of our catalog, will be posted shortly before the convention itself, which runs February 13-15 in lovely Crystal City, VA.  Stay tuned for glimpses of more brand new merch for 2009!

Excuse Our Dust

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Hey gang, while we work to get ready for Katsu, you’re gonna see some changes to this site while we get ready for “Showtime”, if you will…

So, some things may start to act funky, and if so, I apologize!  We’ll be fixed and good soon.

24 Hours, Brunch and Honor

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

This might be one of the greatest undertakings for Super Art Fight, but it’s for a great cause…

Read on for details…take it away, Nick.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This Saturday, Super Art Fight will be in motion like never before. Angry Zen Master: Jami Noguchi and Ghostfreehood: Nick Borkowicz will be jamming for 24 hours to test their endurance and to honor the memory of Caitlin and Matt Boles. Caitlin and Matt were tragically taken from their peers and loved ones due to a car accident this past October. All art drawn Saturday night will be available for auction online or available for purchase at the show with the proceeds going to the Boles family.

The event will be taking place at Starry Night Bakery and Coffee House where Cailtlin had been employed. She was 15 years old, a straight-A honor student and is survived by six brothers and sisters and her parents. The live art event will begin 9am Saturday, January 31st and end 9am Sunday, February 1st. Brunch will be available from 8am to 2pm on Sunday while people from the community may view the finished product.

If you are unavailable to make it out to the event, there will be a live stream of the art jam available at Noguchi’s UStream. If there is anything you would like to see the artists draw, be sure to leave the topics in the comments area below. You might get lucky! We hope to see you there to support independent art and to honor those the community has not forgotten.

OH MY GOD WE’RE GOING KONVENTION KWAZY

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

2009 is in full effect, which means we’re gearing up for our first 2 conventions of the year.

What are they? What are we doing there? Keep reading.

This weekend, we’ll be heading to New York Comic Con.  Please note, we’re mostly going for fun, so we won’t have any swag with us.  However, if you spot us (we’ll be surrounded by nerds), please feel free to say Hi!

The big mamajama is next weekend, as we make our 3rd consecutive appearance at KATSUCON.  We’ll have comics, we’ll have prints, we’ll have Dead of Summer Vol. 1, we’re gonna make it a good time.

And if us being there wasn’t enough, check out that guest list! It’s practically a who’s-who in the world of nerdy things.

Wait…you need more incentive? HOW ABOUT SOME SUPER ART FIGHT ACTION?  That’s right, Super Art Fight invades Katsucon, as it fuses with Iron Artist to present….IRON ARTIST VIII: TATAKE! SUPER ART FIGHT!. That’s Saturday at 1pm, so get your schedules ready.

All and all, next weekend, Katsucon is THE place to be.  Head to Katsucon.com RIGHT NOW, so you can get registered and not get locked out!

Oh, Katsucon, how you rock us.

Monday, February 16th, 2009

You know, every year since we started attending Katsucon back in ‘07, it’s been a convention we love.

And this year, proved no different.

First things first, coming into the con with a relatively new property in Art Fight High School was quite the risky adventure…but we’re really happy to have met up with so many people excited for what we’re doing here, even those who followed us over from Dead of Summer.  Without you, this would be nothing, so first and formost, I’d like to thank the fans.

Up next…Super Art Fight was an amazing adventure.  Chris Impink gave us the opportunity to take over Iron Artist this year, and I think it’s safe to say it was an solid success.  Thanks again to Jami, Yuko, Jamie, Bryan, Hawk, Garth and Steve for providing their pensmanship; thanks to Ross for being such a great broadcast colleague; and thank you again to the audience for making it such a fun time…even if my stomach is complaining today.  I know some of who you attended may be interested in knowing how the charity auction did…I’m very happy to say Super Art Fight raised over $1200 for the American Cancer Society/Race for the Cure, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Now, to our fellow webcomic warriors who braved 3-days of overpacked crowds to shill our wares and make it a good time, I give you your props, in link form…

I know that’s a lot to read, but seriously, click all ‘dem links.  I think the world of webcomics is ready for it’s renissance, and those comics linked above are but just a part of it.

More info from the weekend is to come, including photos from Saturday’s Super Art Fight, plus info on how you can buy the new merch we debuted at Katsu, but until then, we’ll see you tomorrow with the start of the next arc in Art Fight High School!

So What Does A Webcomics Panel Look/Sound Like?

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Katuscon 15: How To Make Webcomics: From Sketch to Posting and All Points in Between. from kaiki on Vimeo.

The above video is from this past weekend at Katsucon, and features me among a verifiable group of webcomics superheavyweights on the topic of “How to Create a Webcomic”.

Watch me squirm, and attempt to make funny amongst the awesome crowd of Michael “Mookie” Terracciano, Brad Guigar, Kris Straub, Dave Kellett, Brian Prindiville and Ross Nover.

And hey! Look! Sure, the video quality isn’t as good, but here’s a vid of the panel Nick was on this past weekend: Print, Web, or Both: What Should a Comic Artist Do?

Mind Scratching Our Back A Little?

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Hey gang:

Were you some of the rad folks who met us at Katsucon this year?

Maybe you watched and enjoyed some of the panels we were on (featured below).

Heck, maybe you saw us as Super Art Fight took over Iron Artist.

Any way you look at it, would you mind showing us, and the other webcomics guests some love, by showing your appreciation in the Attendee Survey?

That’d be rad.  In fact, I’ll say this: complete that survey, and e-mail us (artfighthighschool at gmail dot com) a screen cap of your completed survey, and I’ll e-mail you an exclusive Art Fight High School wallpaper. Absolutely free!

Awesome, you’re the best.

We’re Connecticut Bound!

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Yes indeedy, gang, as Nick and I are making our 3rd straight appearance at Connecticon, coming up on July 31st-August 2nd.

This year though, it’s not just about the comic, it’s also about fighting! Some SUPER ART FIGHTING to be exact!

That’s right, Connecticon 2009 won’t just be home to Nick and I shilling swag and doing q’s and a’s, we’re going to rock the very foundation of it’s core, as we take SUPER ART FIGHT on the road, and bring it to New England!

More details on that are to follow, but if you’re interested in joining us, you better jump on it fast, as registration is available for the low low price of $35 for the entire weekend through March 14th!  If you register after the 14th, the price bumps up to $45, so save yourself a Hamilton, and register today!
